On Ice

The snow pack this year is pretty light in Alaska. And the wind has been fickle at best. But this makes for some great ice skating. I found this neat little pond with perfect ice at the end of Turnagain Arm. With perfect wind I launched a kite and 'icekited' for awhile, but it proved to be a bit gusty and dangerous for my tastes. With the latest stretch of warm weather the ice was cracking all around, but I never did go through. Judging from the trees in this pond, it doesn't stand to be very deep anyway.

  1. Troy. That looks like fun on a beautiful winters day. What a cool picture. Reminds me of one of my favorite places to kayak around submerged trees. Quake Lake, outside WestYellowstone Montana.
